Group Chief Executive Officer
Justine Cain
Justine commenced in the newly created role of Group Chief Executive Officer in November 2021.
Ms Cain has held senior executive and Board roles with listed, privately owned, private equity backed and not-for-profit organisations in the health, human services and general insurance sectors. Justine is currently on the Boards of UnitingCare Queensland, the Australian Diabetes Society, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association, LeapIn! and the Kellion Foundation Ltd.
Justine’s expertise spans transformational leadership roles, strategy development and execution, customer-centric leadership, largescale operational delivery, government relations, advocacy and complex stakeholder management.
Justine has a strong understanding of the broad health, human services and aged care sectors and is committed to achieving equity in access to health services, population health improvement and judicious use of funding. Justine holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the Australian National University.

Diabetes Australia Committees
Diabetes Australia Board Committees provide assistance and assurance to the Board of Directors in fulfilling its corporate governance and oversight responsibilities. These committees include:
The Finance & Audit and Risk Management Committee (FARM) provides assistance to the Board of Directors in fulfilling its corporate governance and oversight responsibilities in relation to the Company’s financial reporting, internal control structure, risk management systems, external audit functions and compliance and external accounting responsibilities.
The Medical, Education and Scientific Council (MESC) provides advice to the Board on relevant medical, education and scientific matters.
The International Affairs Committee (IAC) provides advice to the Board on matters related to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and global activities related to diabetes.
The NDSS Governance Committee provides advice, assistance and assurance to the Board on corporate governance and oversight responsibilities in respect to Diabetes Australia’s NDSS agreements.
Nomination and Remuneration Committee recommends candidates for key roles (CEO and Independent President) alongside remuneration and terms and conditions of employment.
Parliamentary Friends of Diabetes
In 2000, the Hon. Judi Moylan MP established the Parliamentary Friends of Diabetes Group with bi-partisan support from executive members Dr Mal Washer MP and the Hon. Dick Adams MP, with former members Mr Cameron Thompson and Mr Guy Barnett (former Senator for Tasmania).
The current co-Chairs of the Parliamentary Friends of Diabetes Group are Mr Rowan Ramsey MP and Mr Graham Perrett MP.
The Parliamentary Friends of Diabetes Group was established to:
Encourage all parliaments to establish support groups.
Raise awareness of diabetes types 1 and 2 among Members of Parliament and staff
Act as a conduit to Ministers to improve policy responses to management, education and research
Offer support to Members, Senators and staff working Parliament House who have been diagnosed with diabetes
Liaise with industry groups, research organisations and allied health professionals
Promote the development of public policies and increase public awareness and knowledge of comprehensive management regimes
Host or co-host a minimum of two events each year to highlight the public health risks of the diabetes epidemic
Draw world-wide attention to the complications and quality of life implications and the effect on health budgets if governments do not act
